Dr. Hislop is founder and President of the ECHELON Consulting Group, based in Stockton, CA. ECHELON, under Dr. Hislop's leadership, has become a leader in custom-designed dental management consulting and administrative services for clients throughout the Western United States.

Jay received his BA from the University of California at Berkeley, graduating with Distinction. He received his DDS from UCLA, where he was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon, dental honorary. More recently, Dr. Hislop received his JD from the Humphreys College of Law, where he was valedictorian of his class.

Dr. Hislop's extensive background in both the clinical and managerial side of dentistry includes completing the entire curriculum of the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education, where he was invited to join the faculty and later the Board of Directors. Jay remains on the Pankey Foundation Board. He has been involved with the design of their practice management model, as well as both the tools used by the Institute for evaluation of dental practices and the strategic planning used to create meaningful and transforming changes in those practices.

A frequent and sought after lecturer on clinical and practice management, Jay has spoken to various organizations on such subjects as practice (entity) formation and dissolution, transitions, life after dentistry, contemporary ethics, quality care of dental patients, dental reconstruction and rehabilitation, and periodontal prosthetics.

Dr. Hislop has authored two popular books, which reflect both his practical and academic experience in the field of dental practice management. His first book, published in 1999, is titled "Designing Your Perfect Dental Practice - Foundations of Clinical Success". His second book, with co-author Gordon Burgett, published in 2001, is titled "Life After Dentistry - What Are You Going To Do With Your Extra Thirty Years". In these books, it shows that Jay cares deeply about his peers in his profession, and is eager to share his successes to ensure the practice and retirement success of his dental colleagues.

Dr. Hislop is currently using his law degree to augment his dental management expertise and services, as well as assisting doctors in all aspects of their dental legal issues.
